Ughh… frustrated

December 9, 2007

Just finished playing a quick 500 hand session mostly at the 300nl game on FTP, and got fucking destroyed – I dropped $1400 at 300nl and another $200 at 1/2 for a minus $1600 session. To be honest I think I played pretty well, but I ran horrifically. It was just an unbelievably gross session… I had to call it quits after the following gem:

Full Tilt Poker, $0.75/$1.50 NL Hold’em Cash Game, 6 Players

BTN: $121.15
SB: $394.90
BB: $345
UTG: $409.45
arrrrtard (MP): $366.60
CO: $300

Pre-Flop: A A dealt to arrrrtard (MP)
UTG folds, arrrrtard raises to $5.25, CO folds, BTN calls $5.25, SB folds, BB calls $3.75

Flop: ($16.50) 5 Q 5 (3 Players)
BB checks, arrrrtard bets $13.50, BTN folds, BB raises to $44, arrrrtard calls $30.50

Turn: ($104.50) 2 (2 Players)
BB bets $66, arrrrtard calls $66

River: ($236.50) 6 (2 Players)
BB bets $229.75 and is All-In, arrrrtard calls $229.75

Results: $696 Pot ($3 Rake)
BB showed 6 6 (a full house, Sixes full of Fives) and WON $693 (+$348 NET)
arrrrtard mucked A A (two pair, Aces and Fives) and LOST (-$345 NET)

Against most people I’d be shoving the turn, but this guy was a complete moron and had a lot of hands in his range with almost no equity (like 66 for example…), so I wanted to let him keep bluffing. Bleh, this was kind of the story of the session – I got owned by a bunch of complete monkeys who could not read hands to save their lives. I mean, this guy’s play in the hand is completely idiotic – he was playing very loose and very aggro, so he has to know I’m not gonna give him any credit. Basically anything I’m calling the flop with I’m at least calling the turn with, and I’ll be getting very good odds on the river… so basically I think his play is terrible. If he had a much tighter image, then fine, it could be a good line, but he’s gonna get looked up almost every time.

And just to give you guys a sense of who I was playing against, take a look at this one:

Pre-Flop: 9 K dealt to arrrrtard (CO)

SB showed A 9 (two pair, Aces and Nines) and WON $638.40 (+$318.45 NET)
arrrrtard showed 9 K (a pair of Nines) and LOST (-$319.95 NET)

First, this guy was so retarded that I was completely convinced I was value-shoving the turn. Obviously not a standard play 200bbs deep, but he’s not a standard human being. But what’s more frustrating for me I think is that his play makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. I just can’t even begin to fathom what he was thinking – why lead the turn? What is he hoping to accomplish? He’s only ahead of the absolute bottom of my range, so is he bluffing? Trying to push out flush draws? Lol I have no clue.

Argh, at least I’m not feeling too tilted (and I don’t think I made any horribly tilty decisions while playing). Progress I guess. But yeah, December has fucking sucked so far. I’m down about $1500 or so over 10k hands – obviously nothing to write home about but overall I’m on a breakeven/slight losing run over my last 20k+ hands, which is getting kind of exasperating. Sigh.

Ughh… hangover

December 9, 2007

Went to a friend’s Christmas party last night and drank waaaay too much – over the course of the night I probably had 10+ drinks, which is ridiculous considering that I hardly ever drink. I am feeling it now.

Won a quick $600 last night before heading out to the party. Some of the fun hands:

Lol, he was kind of a maniac.

This next hand was pretty funny too – it’s always nice to hit quads and get payed off by complete air. No idea what he was thinking, since to be honest he didn’t seem all that bad up until this hand. I mean, was he bluffing the river? What a retard.

Lol I’ve left it unconverted so you can read the chat. I actually got a laugh out of it though since villain was hysterical – he was playing like 50/12 and berated the entire table nonstop in the chat. I unfortunately never picked up any hands to stack him with, oh well.

Anyways I’m not sure if I’ll play any poker today – my roommate’s birthday is tomorrow and we’re going out to a fancy restaurant later tonight. I’d play for a couple hours right now but my head’s not doing so great.

Nice session

Only one more season to go :(

December 7, 2007

Well, I finished the sixth season of Buffy last night, and Amazon should ship me the seventh and final season sometime today. Gonna be an emotional weekend 😦

I had a really fun lesson yesterday, and man, I can’t tell you how badly I needed it – both for the strategy content and just to remember how fun the game can be. Wilt and I started off at 2/4 as usual and were doing pretty well, when the following hand occurred.

Full Tilt Poker, $2/$4 NL Hold’em Cash Game, 3 Players
LeggoPoker.comHand History Converter

BTN: $812.80
SB: $484
arrrrtard (BB): $412

Pre-Flop: T T dealt to arrrrtard (BB)

SB showed Q Q (a pair of Queens) and LOST (-$412 NET)
arrrrtard showed T T (three of a kind, Tens) and WON $823 (+$411 NET)

Obviously an awkward spot, but the SB had made a few large 4bets against me already, and I think TT is a little too strong to just fold blind on blind.

Anyways I sucked out, he threw a hissy fit, and Wilt and I decided to challenge him to a HU grudge match 🙂

We split action 50-50 at 3/6. Villain was a total weirdo – pretty nitty preflop and then a COMPLETE station postflop. E.g. the first real pot of the match:

Nothing atrocious about that obviously but he wasn’t exactly an aggromonkey. And not one for the tough folding – here’s the first hand we stacked him.

There are obviously some situations in which his call would be reasonable, but I just don’t think he understood that he was beating only a complete bluff. And given my read of him as a complete station, I’m not really sure I’m ever bluffing here – at worst I have AK/KQ with no flush, and still stack him. At any rate I’m only value betting here, just with varying degrees of thinness.

We eventually got chipped back down to even (we lost about half a stack when we c/r bluffed an ATT flop and fired a blank turn, and he minraised us lol). But he was still a station so it was okay.

Again, I just don’t think this guy understood what a bluff-catcher was. His call down makes no sense whatsoever – his flop call is terrible, and his turn call is atrocious because he’s committing himself to stacking off on the river – which makes no sense given my range! I could see stacking off here with like KJ+ and any flush, but that’s about it – mid pair no kicker doesn’t cut it.

Okay one more hand – did I mention he was a station?

I’m not sure what I think about our river play tbh – obviously it was pretty good given his actual holdings but I feel like we missed some value by betting so small. Meh, it’s an awkward spot since the flush is entirely within his range… lol but so is A high and just about any pair, so idk, I think a larger bet would be better. Not totally sure though.

Mkay that’s about it from the HU match. Only other story I can think of from yesterday was how I got OWNED by my Macbook Pro. My roommates and I are all Mac dorks and decided to have a big ram upgrade party. This is a little silly since I already have 2gb, but it only cost me $170 or so to get 4gb of ram so I think it’s worth it. Anyway, I tried to install my new memory yesterday and COULD NOT BUDGE the screws on my computer’s memory bay. Not even close. In all seriousness I think I pulled a muscle in my right wrist (my mouse-clicking hand, oh noes!). I was feeling pretty emasculated for a while but my enormous roommates couldn’t unscrew them either. I’m gonna swing by the local Apple store later today and see if I can find a brawny salesclerk to help me out.

Time for a break :(

December 6, 2007

Dropped another $800 today in 1k hands, and I just don’t feel like playing any more. Kind of worried about how depressed I’m getting over this.

What am I doing?

December 4, 2007

I just don’t get it, I’m playing horribly at the moment. I been really unfocused the past few days, and I feel like I’m pretty much always on tilt. I played a quick 900 hand session earlier today and dropped $500 or so at 1/2. Which is nothing obviously but I played sooo badly… ugh this is really depressing.

I’ve got a lesson later today so hopefully I can make some money then, but it sucks to rely on a coach to make you money.

Anyways, feeling really disappointed and I guess I’ll go for a walk. This is lame.

Update: Wilt and I ran really cold in our lesson and dropped a buyin at 2/4, so I’m down $800 on the day. Basically not much happened – we chipped up about a buyin, then lost a set over set, and then got chipped down another buyin after we got played back at on about twelve cbets in a row. Meh.

Time for some shopping

December 4, 2007

So it’s finally started to snow in Boston, and I am cold. Ergo, time for a shopping spree!

I guess in part because I never have to leave the house for work, I basically live like a hobo. I have one pair of very frayed jeans, one Harvard sweatshirt that I stole from my roommate (no joke, I was too lazy to pick up my own last year… wtf is wrong with me lol), and I left my only rain jacket back in Virginia over Thanksgiving break. I also only have one pair of shoes (of the running variety). Basically I am dangerously ill-equipped to deal with going out on a Saturday night, much less a Boston winter.

So. I’m thinking a sweet North Face jacket to keep out the snow, plus a whole bunch of nice clothing from like JCrew etc. Unfortunately JCrew’s website appears to have been created by their fucking fashion designers and has no working shopping cart function. I’ve tried every browser I have, on both the mac and pc sides of my computer, and the stupid thing just doesn’t work. Lol maybe I’m just still tilted from yesterday’s poker debacle but man, but it’s kind of funny how much this is irritating me.

Anyways, on to the poker content for the day – I played a pretty nice 3hr session today at 1/2nl, and finished up $800. I 6-tabled for the most part and thought I played pretty well, although I lost my focus a few times for sure. There were a few funny hands I thought I’d share…

What can I say, I’m a sicko. Lol I actually felt pretty good about the call and assumed I was flipping – I had been 3betting this guy quite a lot and he 4bet shoved super quickly. I just don’t see how he can ever have a very good hand here – although in hindsight I guess his range includes some medium pocket pairs that have much crushed. But I think he has TT+ here almost never, which means I actually have enough equity to call his shove.

Next one was pretty confusing – villain was pretty bad, playing something like 36/15/1 over 75 hands. I was planning on c/c the turn and reevaluating on the river, but his tiny bet felt a lot more like a weak J than a flush or a 9. I opted for a small c/r because I think I can get more value from him, and if he shoves over the top it’s an easy fold. And then on the river, eh, it’s a weird spot – he called my c/r instantly, so I just didn’t see how he could have a very big hand. But admittedly I was kind of at a loss about what he had. Meh.

Heh the next one might be even cooler than the 55 vs. 33 hand. This guy potted all three streets pretty much instantly, and people almost never do that with very strong hands. So, I figured he had to have just a draw. On the flop, I think I like calling better than raising, but I’m not totally sure about why.

Little too tired to past any more I think. My big losing hands weren’t all that interesting – in hindsight they were all just pretty clear examples of when I lost focus. I just messed them up, not much else to say.

Hmmm

December 2, 2007

Just finished playing a hellish session. I dropped $1700 or so in about 1k hands, mostly at 2/4. I’m so tilted I’m shaking. I’m kind of shocked by how angry I am – I thought I was getting better at dealing with this kind of stuff but I totally lost it today. Unfortunately it’s too fucking cold outside to go for a walk, so I’m not really sure what to do to keep me from blowing up.

Important razz update

December 2, 2007

Just pwned some noobs at 3/6 razz and won $22. I’m happy to report that my lifetime razz winnings now exceed approximately $23, holla

Maybe I should start playing more razz when I get a random urge to play some poker, since I’m obviously gifted and you can only lose so much on a given hand. Limit holdem is obviously not a possibility since it’s insane and makes no sense whatsoever.
